Idle WIT 2013 - Summer Camp

IDLEWIT Dates 7 - 14 August 2013, starting and ending at noon. Seven whole Idle WIT days and nights. Woop woop!!

This is your opportunity to socialise and do your own thing, whether it is music making, craft making, sharing your skills, walking, communing with nature, relaxing, exploring the area - doing all the things you never get time to do.

To put on a WIT festival takes an enormous amount of time, effort and commitment of many women throughout the entire year. In 2013 the planners and other crew are hoping to spend some time having a well-deserved holiday with their WIT friends instead! So this year we are going to keep organisation and other work to the bare minimum possible - we will be booking no crew, performers etc, and all who come to the Idle WIT camp will be asked to contribute to the costs ... £35 low/unwaged £50 high-waged

We are planning to have on the WIT camp site:

A large marquee so we can gather together in one space

Portable showers (HOT!) and portable toilets

Drinking water

A skip to take away landfill.

We have asked the farmer to make a hardcore track onto the bottom field to improve access, and we will be funding the materials.

A large fire every evening ...
Dear WIT sisters, the Wooding weekend dates were finalised at the AGM for 13th/14th July and it was agreed that we would try and get in two full days for wooding as IdleWIT will run for seven nights this year and we will need more wood, so we need to make the most of the time available. If possible, we would like Wooding women to arrive by Friday 12th July (evening) to set up camp and be able stay until Sunday evening/Monday. We can camp until Monday 15th July and we have the farmers permission again to camp on the WIT field for this weekend. Gweno and Erica have volunteered to cook for us that weekend (yeay!) Please bring food to share for cooking If you weren’t at the AGM to confirm, but would like to help, can you please let us know ASAP whether you can come the wooding weekend . • We encourage women who come to share skills and entertainment and other fun, please organise this amongst yourselves and surprise and entertain us! Bring that guitar!
  • For those who do prefer to work, there will be on site projects towards future WITs like re-roofing our storage spaces, just turn up and join in if interested, materials provided (Bring your tools!)

Please come prepared to provide and cook your own food. The Post Office at Llanfair Clydogau has a wide range of Suma and other foods and in Lampeter there is a Co-Op and Healthfood store, The Mulberry Bush. There is an Organic Food Shop on the Lampeter Industrial estate.

One of the hardest decisions about having a camp and no WIT crew is that we will not be offering Access Support and organised maintenance of pathways. We suggest that women with disabilities organise any support that they will need with their friends. . If you want to bring a motorised scooter or wheelchair you can make an arrangement for these to be charged at the farm down the lane.

Festival Takedown usually takes almost a whole week! We do not intend to get out the WIT gear from storage in 2013 as we will have no crew to sort it and put it all back in good condition ready for festival in 2014, so please bring your own washing gear, chairs etc.

We will supply contact numbers for local taxi firms, and a list of B&Bs in the area.

At the end of every WIT Festival our aim is to leave the land as we found it so please, everyone make extra effort to leave the site as clean as we do.
