Revolting women logo

This year's theme is Revolting Wimmin! Yeah! We are celebrating the ways we wimmin have changed the world for the better through time. Glorying in wimmins activism now and in the past.

We are not letting them get away with imprisoning our minds and bodies. Our festival is part of this activism...one of the few remaining wimmin only spaces where we can be free to BE !

We encourage all of us to bring our stories, our campaigns, our successes and our continuing challenges. Songs and music have always been part of this activism. So bring along your musical memories too. Our strength and determination to be all of who we are is the core of WIT.

Greenham Day

As part of our celebration of wimmins activism over the years, we are going to have a part of WIT dedicated to the Greenham Common Peace camp. On the Friday will be a bender making workshop in the 'Greenham Area' and wimmin are invited to bring things to decorate this area and help us remember that space. 2011 was the 30th anniversary of the start of the camp.

A Greenham assault course is also in the planning!

There will be a fire in that area and after the evening's Big Top entertainment on that day there will be a gathering at that fire for wimmin to share their memories of the camp, the wimmin and the actions. And the songs! Paula Boulton's workshop of feminist songs, songs of peace and protest will also be on that day so that will give us a reminder of some of the songs we sang there.

2012 Women in Tune Festival - Thursday 16th August to Monday 20th August

We have been busy bees in the last month, read on for some of our lineup!

Horse is coming to WIT this year!
Horse has a wide UK following, has toured with Tina Turner and has had several record chart hits in Europe. She is renowed for her rich, sonorous voice, and has been descibed as "one of Scotland's all-time great vocalists, also possessed of a keen songwriting intelligence".

The Carrivick Sisters
Widely considered the finest young folk/bluegrass duo in the UK. Runners-up in the BBC Folk Awards, several radio and TV appearances (inc Woman's Hour last year), they toured throughout UK, Ireland, Europe and North America and have just released their 4th CD at age of 21!

Delicata
Rachel Delicata, acoustic guitar and vocals, and Shirley Novak, double bass, backing vocals, acoustic guitar and lap-steel (not all at the same time!). We perform original material as well as covers done in our own unique style which has been described as 'Americana' (Civil Wars etc.) and is always a journey of sensitive music and song.

Meet Your Feet
Lively 8-piece all women's Band from Bristol, originally gigging from 1987-1992. Major festivals including WOMAD and Glastonbury. Several international tours and TV appearances. Voted best Bristol Band by Venue magazine. Great mix of soul, jazz and latin- very danceable (hence "Meet Your Feet")

And...
Sarah Kate Bennet, Pan Diva, Cheryl Beer and many others, check out the performers page on the web site for the latest additions and have a listen..

The Sanctuary, Hafan and Tara tents, is a quiet place for meditation, peace and relaxation.

It will be open for individual women to have time to themselves as well as group workshops which will be mainly facilitated by Sorrel and Noel. These will include meditation, story telling, walks in Nature to nurture the spirit, creating sacred space and relaxing mind, body, spirit with t'ai chi, yoga and chakra work

Line dancing

Thanks Barbara Harrington for the photo of the Trailer Trash Event in 2011, lots of fun was had - thanks too to Witchazel, Pixie and the Pink Flamingo Cooperative

WIT special events are on from late afternoon to early evening.

This year we have three WIT special events lined up!

  • A Recycled Ball giving us a chance to get creative with our ballgowns (or maybe dust off the tux?), There will definitely lots of dancing at that one
  • Twmpath - which is a Welsh style ceilidh. We are having a tea party with it (and that means yummy cakes!). We are also looking into the possibilty of some Twmpath dancing (If you know a woman who can lead a workshop in Twmpath dancing please ask her to get in touch).
  • And Women through Herstory which is another dressing up event, we are cooking up some fun and games for that one too!
